FORCED DISPLACEMENT |

Dystopia is often characterized by fear or distress, tyranny, inflicting environmental disaster, or other characteristics associated with a cataclysmic decline of a population, which is the issue about the Palestinians. These characteristics were found in the way how the Israelis brought the declaration of war into practice after the Hamas resistance attack on October 7, 2023. In relation to Gaza, dystopian is adjective to or denoting an imagined society where there is great suffering or injustice. Forced displacement or forced eviction? We have seen that the Israelis are constantly speaking about "evacuation" when they want an selected area empty to destroy it. But, evacuation is a process of emptying a building, a place, an area in time of peace to save people's life when there is a calamity like flooding, wildfire or earth quake. The call to people to leave carries a humanitarian character. This is not the case when the caller is a war belligerent and tells people to follow the order to leave while adding the threat that they would be a target. This is neither 'evacuation' nor forced displacement as the latter is the result of being expelled under threat with no right to return. |
